Description

In this lesson, students will practice agreeing and disagreeing as well as giving opinions. Being introduced by a school discussion with controversial topics to be encouraged to share opinions and to take sides on trendy topics.

Main Aims

  • To provide speaking practice in a discissions in the context of expressing opinioins, agreeing and disagreeeing.

Subsidiary Aims

  • To provide practice of giving opinions in the context of what is correct or not

Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (3-5 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

T shows some pictures of controversial situations and asks students for their opinions.

Exposure (6-8 minutes) • To provide a model of production expected in coming tasks through reading/listening

T plays and audio and asks SS to answer on Forms a quick questionary. SS listen to the audio, answer and share ideas. T plays the second time and asks for intensive listening SS work on forms collecting and sharing data.

Useful Language (6-8 minutes) • To highlight and clarify useful language for coming productive tasks

T asks Ss to categorize some of the phrases heard in the audio. (Jamboard) SS work individually and share answers. 3 min T asks students to go to Jamboard and match some phrases with possible components SS work individually and share answers. 2 min T plays the audio and elicits for repetition Ss repeat chorally some phrases 2 min

Productive Task(s) (10-15 minutes) • To provide an opportunity to practice target productive skills

T shows a list of 12 controversial topics, asks students to choose 3 of them. Ss choose 3 topics and write them down in the slide assigned. T pairs students up and gives them 4 minutes to exchange ideas. SS make notes of their classmates' opinions on slides. T exchanges pairs and students collect new data. in 4 more minutes. T monitors and collects data for feeback.

Feedback and Error Correction (6-9 minutes) • To provide feedback on students' production and use of language

T makes notes on the board and elicits for corrections
