Students will continue the previous slot, which will provide them to listen about one's birthday party and they will go through the language focus of my lesson which is making question sentences and giving answers with was /were.

Main Aims

  • The main aim of my lesson is to practice question sentences and short answers with was/ were. The teacher aims to enable the students make questions in the past by using the past form of the verb "be".

Subsidiary Aims

  • The sub amis of the lesson will be listening and speaking because the Ss will lead into the context by a listening activity and at the end they will practice target language by a freer speaking activity.


Lead in /Listening (6-8 minutes) • To set the lesson context,engage students and make them interested in

I will show a picture of Margaret's thirteenth birthday party and show the girl in the picture, then I want them to look at her and think if she is happy or not. After that I'll set the class for listening activity, I will give them a handout for listening. First of all they will listen and understand the questions then I will play the recording and they answer. I will monitor while they are working on the activity so that I will know if they need to listen the recording again or not.

Language Focus (10-12 minutes) • To introduce and get the Ss ready to use was/ were in questions and short answers

I will set three groups of students by grouping them by colors. I will give some cut up sentences to the groups. They will try to put the Question sentences into order. I will elicit the correct sentences on the WB to check their answers. After that I will do some backchaining and then drilling so that they will get used to a question sentence with was / were and giving short answer too.

Controlled Practice (6-8 minutes) • To enable Ss use the language focus they learned in an activity

I will give the Ss a HO. The students will work on the activity to make questions. They will use the subject "you" and "was/ were". I will ask them to work in pairs. After that they will ask questions to each other for personalized question and answers.

Freer Activity (10-12 minutes) • To enable Ss use the target language for fluency in a freer activity

As the students were working in pairs, they will continue working in pairs again. I will elicit the students as student A and students B and then I will give them separate handouts that includes different questions. After that I will demonstrate the conversation that they will practice soon. First of all, They will make questions. Then I will tell them to answer the questions for themselves in the column "you". When they finish answering they will ask the questions to each other.

Whole Class information (4-5 minutes) • The Ss will be able to speak about their partners according to the questions they asked

The Ss worked in pairs and asked personalized questions to each other. Now it is time to share the informations with the whole class. They will tell about their partners to the class.
