Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (5-10 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

Teacher will ask students about their closest family members, to describe them and tell what they do. Teacher will encourage Ss to talk between them about their childhood hobbies. Teacher will show a picture, Ss will tell everything they know about him. (Steve Jobs) Teacher and Ss will talk about what they do when they phone a friend and they don't answer. Ss will have to choose 3 important years of their lives and they will say what happened.

Exposure (10-15 minutes) • To provide context for the target language through a text or situation

Students will listen to Greg talking about his family, they will have to identify the family members he talks about; they will complete his family tree. Ss will listen to the second part of the audio, Ss will match the years with the event. Ss will read a text about Steve Jobs an put the events in the correct order. Ss will watch some videos about Annie and Dan leaving voice messages. Ss will listen to Eva talking about his life, they will have to match the years with the events of her life.

Highlighting (5-8 minutes) • To draw students' attention to the target language

Ss will notice Greg's family tree and its members, they will answer some questions about it. Teacher will clarify the difference between is/are. Was/were. Ss will see with some examples how to use in/on when talking about years and dates. Ss will notice some verbs in past end in -ed and some others don't.

Clarification (10-15 minutes) • To clarify the meaning, form and pronunciation of the target language

Simple past affirmative: subject + verb in simple past + complement in + year in + month on + the complete date The first of July ( 1st) Cardinal numbers I am/was You are/were He, she it is/was We, they are/were

Controlled Practice (10-15 minutes) • To concept check and prepare students for more meaningful practice

Ss will complete a family tree using the words in the box. Ss will underline the correct verb according to sentence depending if it's in the present, past, affirmative or negative. Teacher will encourage students to match some verbs in present with their past form and check the pronunciation of them. Ss will complete the voicemail and the caller messages with the words in the box, then they will practice them using their own names. Ss will put George's life events in the correct order according to the pictures.

Semi-Controlled Practice (10-14 minutes) • To concept check further and prepare students for free practice

Ss will underline the correct option depending if the idea means to be in present or past. Ss will complete a text but they will have to change the verb from present to simple past. Teacher will encourage Ss to complete a conversation using the words in the box. Ss will complete the phrases about their own life using: When I was... In...

Free Practice (10-15 minutes) • To provide students with free practice of the target language

Ss will talk among them about their family, using a year or date correctly. Ss and teacher will talk about something they or a family member did in the past. Ss will write their story life using in/when I was.
