Description

In this lesson, Ss will practice their receptive skills through reading and listening activities and vocab clarification. the lesson starts with a discussion about free time activities. This will be followed by a pre-teaching task, reading/listening for gist, detail and specific information. The lesson will be wrapped up with a speaking activity.

Main Aims

  • For Ss to practice their receptive skills through reading/listening for gist, detail comprehension and specific information

Subsidiary Aims

  • To provide fluency and accuracy speaking practice in conversations in the context of misunderstandings. By the end of the lesson, students will have improved their speaking skill via knowing how to respond to Ilike.......... sentences/ Do you like .......? questions.

Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (5-6 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

- display some pictures of free time activities. - ask Ss: do we do them on our free time or busy time? - Ss answer free time. * giving instructions: 1) alone, in one minute, write 6 free time activities. 2) work in pairs. 3) exchange your papers. 4) ask each other: when do you do those activities? 5) 2 mins - T models with one student then with open pairs. -T conducts content feedback.

PTV (5-6 minutes) • to ensure Ss can comprehend the text properly

-Ss do ex 1, p.34 giving instructions: 1- in pairs, 1 min, tick the words you know. - Ss do ex 1 , p.134 1- alone, 1 min , match the words to the pictures. 2- in pairs, 1 min , check your answers. 3- check the answers on the slide. T models and drill the phrases.

Pre-Reading/Listening (3-4 minutes) • To prepare students for the text and make it accessible

Ss do ex 5 - focus Ss on the photo. - T asks; - what do you think first date is? - Is it a TV cooking programme? or Is it a TV dating programme? PTV : date and presenter through pictures.

While-Reading/Listening #1 (6-7 minutes) • To provide students with less challenging gist and specific information reading/listening tasks

- Ss read and listen. -underline 4 things Mike likes. - circle one thing he doesn't like. - check answers in pairs then on the slide.

While-Reading/Listening #2 (7-8 minutes) • To provide students with more challenging detailed, deduction and inference reading/listening tasks

- Ss do ex 6. *listen and answer -Is Mike talking to the women or the presenter? - Is Mike asking the presenter about men? * elicit : which woman is he asking about in qs from 1 to 6? Kim. *PTV: the word "vet" through a picture. *listen again - Match Mark's questions and the presenter's answer? - 2 mins -check in pairs. - check on the slide.

Post-Reading/Listening (10-15 minutes) • To provide with an opportunity to respond to the text and expand on what they've learned

* ex4 - T drills the speech in the bubbles. - T highlights the use of object pronouns. - Ss in groups discuss what they like and dislike.
