Main Aims

  • To provide clarification and practice of symptoms and treatments in the context of health problems.

Subsidiary Aims

  • To provide accuracy and fluency speaking practice in a conversation about symptoms in the context of heath.

Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (3-5 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

- T shows them a picture about health and health problems and ask the Ss to guess the topic. - T demos the activity talking about what he felt last week and what he'd got. - T starts to ask Ss to talk about the their health problems and symptoms. - T monitors if Ss need help. - T takes content feedback

Test #1 (8-10 minutes) • To gauge students' prior knowledge of the target language

- T shows them a picture of some people are having some problems. - T demos the task (t asks them about the fist one and what he's got) - Ss start doing the matching activity individually. - T monitors if Ss need help. - Ss check their answers in pairs. - T provides content feedback.

Teach (15-20 minutes) • To clarify areas of the target language where students had difficulty in the first test stage

- starts showing them pictures and elicits the symptoms. - T drills the words - T starts miming the symptoms and check Ss' understanding.

Test #2 (8-10 minutes) • Check students' use of the target language again and compare with the first test

- T demos the task (filling the gaps activity) - T asks ICQs to check the Ss' understanding. - Ss start completing the sentences individuslly. - T monitors if Ss need help. - Ss check their answers in pairs. - T provides content feedback.

Free practice (13-15 minutes) • To provide students with free practice of the target language

- T gives them the instructions for the activity (role plays) - T demos the roleplay with some Ss. - Ss planning and preparing for the roleplays. - T monitors if Ss need help. - T asks Ss to stand up and change pairs. - T monitors if Ss need help. - T starts content and language feedback..
