in this lesson students will be practicing a writing task inviting frriends to visit a city

Materials

Main Aims

  • To provide process and product writing practice of a Email in the context of inviting friends to visist me.

Subsidiary Aims

  • To provide practice of language used for Persuasive porpuses in the context of visiting a friend aborad

Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (3-5 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

Share slides with photos. Get Ss to give ideas (if not thre isa video available) Discuss 2-3 min.

Exposure (9-11 minutes) • To provide a model of production expected in coming tasks through reading/listening

1. GIST STAGE Share an email conversation, and ask to number it in the chat box. 2min Check responses. C-1 D-2 A-3 B-4 Ask students what aspects must be mentioned in the last email requested. (1min) Show Ss the follow up email Ask the to read it individually (1min) Show Ss the same email, "divided", ask them to give a name each possible section in the chat box. (2 min) Share opinions and check suggested version. (2 min)

Useful Language (8-10 minutes) • To highlight and clarify useful language for coming productive tasks

1. Exposure stage to focus on useful language. Share a follow up email, Ask them what the purpose of the email is. Answer- Persuading Send them to BOR to identify the perssuassive phrases (3 min) Ask students to write the answers in the chat. Elicit for other possible phrases.. (2 min) Go over MFP (3 min)

Productive Task(s) (15-18 minutes) • To provide an opportunity to practice target productive skills

Preparation STAGE Ask 2 or 3 Ss to say what people could visit if theyr visited thier hometowns. (1 min) Ask them to make notes for each paragraph. Assign them each a labelled slide on Slides. Give them 5 or 6 mins to make notes. Check progress and assist where required. Writing STAGE. Ask Ss to write an email to a friend persuading him/her to visit them (8 min) Highlight they should organize it into paragraphs using the email sample form Slide 12 Ask them to use some of the useful phrases. Monitor and assist where required. As they write note examples of good language or errors for DEC

Feedback and Error Correction (5-8 minutes) • To provide feedback on students' production and use of language

Provide Ss with an (online) checklist so that they can read a peerĀ“s email. end them to breakout rooms and they can give each other feedback after using the checklist. (3 min) Have general correction to the class (2 min)
