Description

By the end of the lesson, students will have been introduced to a lexical set of vocabulary related to time through PPP as a main aim and speaking " telling time" as a secondary aim. The lesson starts with a discussion about what time some activities are done. This is followed by an exposure to the target language through an exercise. After checking their comprehension, students will start doing a controlled practice. Finally, students have a free practice through a conversation.

  • To provide accuracy speaking practice in a conversation in the context of telling the time

Procedure

lead in (5-6 minutes) • Building students' interest and eliciting the session's communication goal.

I will draw Ss' attention to today's communication goal through a speaking activity. Instructions: * pair students up * give clear instructions: 1- what time do you ( wake up, got work , go to bed? 2- talk for 2 mins. 3- Do you have anything common? Icqs: 1- are you working in pairs or groups? 2- are you taking for 5 or 2 mins? 3- will you mention what do you have in common? content feedback: (2 mins) Ask students what they have in common in an open pairs discussion.

Exposure (5-0 minutes) • To provide context for the target language through a text or situation

Ss do ex 2a p. 20, SB. Instructions: - alone - match the times to pictures A- F. - take 3 minutes. - check in pairs for 1 min. - check your answers on powerpoint. Icqs: 1) are you working alone or together? 2) are you taking 3 or 5 mins? 3) are you checking your answers in pairs?

Clarification (10-12 minutes) • To clarify the meaning, form and pronunciation of the target language

T asks: How can we ask about time? Ss answer: - what time is it? = what is the time? T holds the clock and round it step by step. T elicits the times, identify the meaning and do plenty of drilling ( chorally, individually, groups). T checks Ss' comprehension: - in groups of 3 (competition) - T writes times on the w/b Ss answer in turns.

Controlled Practice (8-10 minutes) • To concept check and prepare students for more meaningful practice

Ss do ex 3, 4 and 5 ex 3 a: instructions 1- alone 2- complete the times. 3- take 4 mins 4- check in pairs 5- check your answers on the board. ex 4 ( listening) instructions: 1- listen to 3 conversations 2- write the number of conversation next to the right time in the pictures. 3- listen 2 times 4- check in pairs 5- check on the board. ex 5: a, b instructions 1- alone 2- fill in the gaps in the questions and answers -answer number 2 ex 5 a can vary 3- take 3 mins 4- check in pairs then on the board in ex 5 a T highlights that the 3 questions have the same meaning, but the third one is more polite. in ex 5 b, T highlights the use of at, from and to T drills the conversations with Ss and stress on the intonation using open and closed pairs.

Free Practice (10-12 minutes) • To provide students with free practice of the target language

ex 6 b instructions 1- alone, write 6 times 2- in pairs, ask and answer questions about time using the 6 times. 3- write your partner's time 4- check if your partner wrote down the right time or not. T monitors and take some notes content feedback T asks couple of pairs if they got all the times right

mistakes correction (4-5 minutes) • to target accuracy

T writes the mistakes on the board T gives students 1 or 2 mins to check them in pairs T elicits corrections.
