Main Aims

  • to teach students how to use reported speech in describing a situation or telling a story along with developing reading skills.

Subsidiary Aims

  • To develop speaking skills through a follow up task in which they will be required to tell a story about a situation between them and their mothers or a family member.

Procedure

Warming up (4-6 minutes) • to introduce the topic in an engaging way and to get their attention by asking personalized questions.

the teacher will start the class by greeting the students, asking them about their weekend, then she will play a video to make them guess what the topic of the lesson. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2T_PyWTrq9Y&list=WL&index=1 it's a short video about mother's day as we are in March. Secondly, the teacher will ask them about their opinions on the video, then she will divide them in pairs to answer the following questions: 1. some people think that there shouldn't be a mother's day as we should celebrate the presence of mothers every day. what do you think about that? 2. in your opinion, what's the best meaningful gift that could be presented to a mother? and why? the duration of the activity is 3 minutes. the teacher will get feedback from students, asking each student about their peer's answer

Pretext predictions + teaching blockers (pre-reading) (4-6 minutes) • to trigger students' background knowledge about the topic, teach blockers which are the new vocabularies that may affect the understanding of the topic or check if students are already familiar with them.

the teacher will show a picture to students of a mother and a son arguing together, she will ask them what they think they do, and she elicits the word argument. she will then ask CCQs about argument: 1. Are they fighting together? 2. Does the conversation seem heated? 3.Do they look like they are disagreeing on something? then she will pronounce it, and drill. then she will write the word on the board with showing stress and syllables: AR.gu.ment (noun). secondly, the teacher will show the title of the text which is: an argument with my mother. after that, the teacher will show another picture of a mother giving her a child some money. then she elicits: pocket money. by asking them what they think they do, then she asks CCQs as follows: 1. Do parents give this money to their child regularly or just one time? 2. Does the child use this money for his/her daily activities or when they hang out with their friends? 3. is this amount of money usually small or big? then she will pronounce the word and drill it. then she will write the word on board with showing syllables and stress: POK.et.mon.ey (noun).
