Description

In this lesson the students will be exposed to some phrasal verbs in the context of using equipment. They will practise the vocabulary by listening and speaking.

Materials

Main Aims

  • To provide clarification and practice of phrasel verbs in the context of using equipment

Subsidiary Aims

  • To provide gist and inference listening practice using a text about giving instructions in the context of using equipment
  • To provide fluency speaking practice in a conversation in the context of giving instructions for using equipment

Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (3-3 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

Ask them if technology means a lot for them. Have a short talk about devices they can't live without.

Pre-Listening (7-10 minutes) • To prepare students for the text and make it accessible

The Ss do PW back to back. They describe each other the missing objects from the picture. When they finish, I introduce the man we are going to listen to. I write 2 questions on the WB to clarify the purpose and kind of listening.

While-Reading/Listening #1 (6-7 minutes) • To provide students with less challenging gist listening tasks

They listen for gist to the recording 2.1. And they discuss the answers to the question 1 and 2 ex. 3a in pairs. Then I get the FB from them.

While-Listening #2 (20-23 minutes) • To provide students with more challenging detailed and inference listening tasks

Running dictation based on ex.3b. They listen to the recording again and put these sentences in correct order. When they get all the sentences, we check them. In ex.4 I clarify the phrasal words and they fill in the gaps. Then we listen to the answer.

Post-Reading/Listening (5-6 minutes) • To provide with an opportunity to respond to the text and expand on what they've learned

Ex.2.4- speaking activity for giving instructions. Guessing game.
