In this Lesson the students are going to practise receptive (reading) skills. first they will skim the text, trying to match the best heading for the text. then they wil focuse on some detailed qestion where they will use scannig skills.

Main Aims

  • To provide gist, scan and detailed reading practice using a text about futurological conference in the context of study of the future

  • To provide fluency speaking practice in a discussion in the context of futurology


Warmer/Lead-in (6-8 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

the students are given a letter from A to B and asked to close their eyes and the teacher holds the picture about Flying cars and asks students with letter A to open their eyes and remember the picture and close their eyes again. The teacher does the same thing respectfully to the students who have the letter B by showing them the picture about skyscrapers, bulding on the moon to the students who have C, the picture from the movie`the guardians of galaxy` to the students with the letter D . In groups of A-D the students start to discuss and try to predict the context of the text.

Pre-Reading/Listening (7-8 minutes) • To prepare students for the text and make it accessible

Vocabulary related to the text will be pre-teached, some practice and CCQs will be done by the teacher.

While-Reading 1 (10-12 minutes) • To provide students with gist reading task

teacher will explain that the titles are missing in each paragraf and they should read the text and try to match a title with a paragraph. Before WC FB they will check their answer in pairs.

While-Reading 2 (13-14 minutes) • To provide students with detailed reading task

students will be given a sheet including sentence complition exercise. they will be explained that they should match the words to a sentence according to the text. they will work in pairs and compare answer in a group, teacher devides the WB in to two and expalains that by taking turns, learners from each group will walk around the room, find the right word and stick them on the white board. At the end they will compare answers and have the whole class feedback. If necessary, teacher will refer back to the passage in order to solve problems.

Post-Reading (8-10 minutes) • To provide with an opportunity to respond to the text and expand on what they've learned

In pairs students are going to discuss which of the talks at the conferance would they like to go to? Why? then teacher asks some students for their opinion.
