Description

In this lesson, students learn the Present Perfect Time. The lesson starts from reading the text about amusement parks in the context of leisure. In this text there is one sentence used in Present Perfect. This sentence will help the teacher to move from reading to grammar. Then the students will listen to two records that will help them to pronounce some irregular verbs in Participle II correctly. Finally, the students will do some speaking exercises, which will combine new vocabulary, grammar and the topic of leisure.

Main Aims

  • To present the Present Perfect Tense using reading, listening and speaking activities in the context of leisure.

Subsidiary Aims

  • To provide speaking in the context of leisure, using the Present Perfect Time.
  • To provide detailed reading practice using a text about ten facts about amusement parks around the world in the context of leisure.

Procedure

Lead-in - Introduction to the subject (2-4 minutes) • To introduce the topic about amusement parks (Leisure)

The teacher shows pictures of Disney World and roller coasters. She asks the students some questions like: 'Have you ever been to Disney World/amusement parks?', 'If yes, how was that?', 'If not, would you like to go?' Then the teacher will present new vocabulary (amusement park, eating area,imagineer). He/She will write words on the WB. The teacher will drill new vocabulary.

Reading (5-6 minutes) • To practice reading for detailed

First the teacher gives instructions how to do ex. 2 on the page 60. She will ask some ICGs. The students will read the questions from the exercise 2 first, then they will read the text on page 61 (Ten facts about amusement parks) and only after that they will answer the questions in pairs (ex.2 on the page 60). To check the correct answer the teacher will give the students an answer key sheet.

Post-reading (2-3 minutes) • To practice new vocabulary

The teacher asks the students to work in pairs (he/she changes partners) and tell each other if they have ever been to amusement parks. They will discuss what do they like and dislike about amusement parks. The teacher is going to monitor and write down their common mistakes.

Grammar (8-10 minutes) • To learn the Present Perfect Tense (meaning, form, pronunciation and the differences between the Present Perfect and Past Simple Tenses).

The teacher writes a sentence from the text on the WB (The Disney Corporation has built eleven Disney theme park around the world) and asks the class if someone know what tense is used in this sentence. Then he/she will draw the time scale to show where the Present Perfect Tense takes place. The teacher will also explain different meaning of the tesne by writing the examples on the WB. Together with the class they will form negative and question form. Then the teacher will drill sentences in Present Perfect. After the presenting grammar the teacher will ask the students some CCGs.

Practice of grammar (5-6 minutes) • To practice the Present Perfect Tense

The teacher will give each student two sentences in the Present Perfect Tense and ask them to write negative and question forms for them. Then they will work in pairs to check each other negative sentences and questions. Teacher will ask the students if they found some mistakes. Then the teacher will instruct the learners with the ex. 2 on the page 60 (Grammar part), ask some ICGs and tell them to do this exercises individually. The teacher will give them the answer key to check the exercise.

Speaking (10-12 minutes) • To practice controlled speaking using the Present Perfect Tense

The teacher will give the students instructions how to do the ex. 3 on the page 61. Then he/she will ask some ICQs to check if they understand the instructions. The learners will do this exercise in pairs. The teacher will monitor the class and correct their mistakes immediately. After the PW the teacher will give the students the workout to do with sentences (choose the correct answer) to check if they know where to use the Present Perfect Tense and where –the Past Simple Tense. They will check answer as a WC.

Feedback (2-4 minutes) • To check grammar and correct the students' errors

The teacher will ask question about grammar like; 'What are the meaning of the Present Perfect Tense', 'How to form the Present Perfect tense?' etc. Then the teacher will do error correction common for the whole class.
