Description

In this lesson, students will discuss what their parents made them do during their free time and how they got worried about what they did in school and their progress in their studies.

Main Aims

  • To provide fluency and accuracy speaking practice in a Discussion in the context of what our parents did with us when we were young and how they got pushy with our school work.

Subsidiary Aims

  • To provide gist and detailed reading practice using a text about fear of failure in the context of how our parents measured our success and guessing the perfect sentence that describes the reading.

Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (3-5 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

I will start telling the learners about my past experience with my parents and how they got really worried about me and never left me alone and ask them to discuss in pairs how their parents worried about them or how they helped at home, enjoyed their free time or where they lest to go out alone.

Useful Language (6-8 minutes) • To highlight and clarify useful language for coming productive tasks

I will highlight the words that learners may face problems with understanding such as (counselor, pushy, criticize, success, failure, develop, and psychologist) drill it and make sure to ask CCQs and ICQs

Exposure (6-8 minutes) • To provide a model of production expected in coming tasks through reading/listening

I will give them questions(2B) to read the sentences quickly and 2 min to go through the text and discuss which sentence suits the reading best and why? then give them feedback that sentence 2 is the most suitable. I will make them read the article and answer the 4 questions in(2c) to make them discuss their answers in pairs which will create productive speaking about the topic.

Productive Task(s) (10-13 minutes) • To provide an opportunity to practice target productive skills

I will divide them into parents and teenager's groups to discuss what parents that are currently in action are doing with their kids and what their parents did with them in the past and they tried to change it while the teenagers also discuss what their parents do with them, and they do not like it and why they would try to change it.

Feedback and Error Correction (8-10 minutes) • To provide feedback on students' production and use of language
