Subsidiary Aims

  • To provide practice of idioms in the context of film

Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (2-3 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

Ask students what their favorite move is! Give 30 seconds to brain storm, and then ask one by one.

Exposure (5-7 minutes) • To provide a model of production expected in coming tasks through reading/listening

1 minute and 30 seconds to read the film review I wrote. Then together identify the components of each paragraph. Intro, summary, analysis, opinion, conclusion

Useful Language (5-7 minutes) • To highlight and clarify useful language for coming productive tasks

MFP on idiomatic phrases that appear within the film review. Clarification as well as motivation towards colorful language. I love idioms, personally, particularly in other languages, so I hope this might be interesting.

Productive Task(s) (18-20 minutes) • To provide an opportunity to practice target productive skills

Write your own film review. Speaks for itself.

Feedback and Error Correction (8-10 minutes) • To provide feedback on students' production and use of language

Distribute checklist. Students peer review each others film review based on the check list.
