In this lesson, students learn about real conditionals though a listening of a radio programme.

Main Aims

  • To provide listening practice for gist and detail in the context of basic emotions

Procedure

Lead-in (1-2 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

Ss look at a picture based on the listening and create a colaborative brainstorm in Jamboard.

Pre-Listening (1-3 minutes) • To prepare students for the listening and make it accessible

Do a quiz in Quizziz to pre-teach the following words: 1. Call center 2. Smash 3. Traffic Jams

Feedback (1-2 minutes) • To get feedback on the content of the task

Show Ss the correct answers and answer questions they may have.

While-Listening #1 (3-5 minutes) • To provide students with less challenging gist and specific information reading/listening tasks

Tell learners they will hear an audio 6.1 to get the general idea of the text. Have them answer exercise 3 in Google Forms as they listen (give the task before the audio starts playing).

Feedback (1-2 minutes) • To get feedback on the content of the task

Have student volunteers read their answer and check if they are correct.

While-Listening #2 (3-5 minutes) • To provide students with more challenging detailed, deduction and inference listening tasks

Learners listen a second time and complete exercise 4A in Google Forms as they listen.

Peer Check (1-2 minutes) • To build students' confidence before open class feedback (OCFB)

Students compare their answer in breakout rooms.

Feedback (1-2 minutes) • To get feedback on the content of the task

Show the correct answers and answer questions Ss may have.

Post-Listening (5-8 minutes) • To provide students with an opportunity to respond to the listening and expand on what they've learned

Students ask 5 questions in BOR to find out how their partner reacts to certain situations similar to the listening.

Feedback (2-5 minutes) • To get feedback on the content of the task

Share opinions and ask Ss to share a summary of what they learned.

Language Feedback (3-5 minutes) • To help learners notice gaps or errors in the English they used and a correct example

Show a list of errors heard during the post-listening activity. Ask students what could be improved and write the correct form below.
