Main Aims

  • To provide clarification, review and practice of Usage of Articles in the context of Food
  • To provide detailed reading practice using a text about Grandpa Shop in the context of Food

Subsidiary Aims

  • To provide fluency speaking practice in a Conversation in the context of Food and Daily Life

Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (5-8 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

I will ask them if they know who is the oldest person alive. then I will ask them who is the oldest person they know and what's their opinion on how one can leave that long. I should preteach Fish and Chips, shopkeeper, industrial, whole, contented, and to retire

Exposure (8-10 minutes) • To provide context for the target language through "My grandfather's shop" passage

Students will have time to read the text individually and I will ask them some questions afterwards. I can play the recording for them to listen and read the text.

Highlighting (3-8 minutes) • To draw students' attention to the target language

Ask SS to find and draw a circle around all of the articles they find in the text. Ask them why they think those articles are used and why "by bus" doesn't have an article eventhough it is a noun?

Clarification (8-16 minutes) • To clarify the meaning, form and pronunciation of the target language

Clarify when we use a/an and when we use The as well as times we don't use any articles. If appropriate ask them to have a look at page 146. Read the reading in page 42 and ask why we used a for shop in the first paragraph and why we used *the* for shop in third one? CCQ then ask them about differences about Amazon and The Amazon. Use the Video to elicit the Target language more and in a funny way

Controlled Practice (8-10 minutes) • To concept check and prepare students for more meaningful practice

Distrbute HOs. Ask them to do Ex1 of HO. - ICQ Give them time to do Ex1 SBP 43 with their partner

Semi-Controlled Practice (8-13 minutes) • To concept check further and prepare students for free practice

Ask SS to do Ex 2 and 3 of HO and give them time to do Ex2 SBP 43. Tell them to think about their reasons. They should then talk about their reasons.

Free speak & Game (20-25 minutes) • To provide the students with a fun way to revise their knowldge and elicit how much I've been seccessful.

Ask them to talk about the oldest person they know in pairs for 5 mins. Put the Snakes and Ladders game on the board and divide the class into 2 groups, each group should choose a nominee to answer for each round yet they can work together to answer.
