Description

This is a lesson demonstration that is 40-45 min long. The lesson is about the present perfect and past simple, so it's a grammar lesson. I'm going to use the Test-Teach-Test approach to teach it.

Main Aims

  • To provide clarification of the present perfect and past simple tenses in the context of past related experiences

Subsidiary Aims

  • To provide accuracy speaking practice using the explained tenses in the context of life experiences and past events

Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (3-5 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

Tell the ss a life experience of mine. Then ask them to share theirs in the breakout rooms for two minutes.

Test #1 (5-7 minutes) • To gauge students' prior knowledge of the target language

Ss have to answer these questions individually on Kahoot.com. We discuss the answers in class mode. The questions are presented as follows: A: Have you ……….. played the piano? Teach (9-10 minutes) • To clarify areas of the target language where students had difficulty in the first test stage

I'll ask them questions related to the target language using PowerPoint to elicit some info. I'll elicit from the ss the following: 1. The tense, use, and timeline 2. The rule 3. The negative and question forms 4. The rule I'll elicit the use of yet and already. They do ex c.

Test #2 (7-9 minutes) • Check students' use of the target language again and compare with the first test

I'll ask them to do ex a and b from the grammar bank part of the lesson individually and then ask them to compare with their friends in groups. I'll show them the answers right after they compare.

Free practice (11-12 minutes) • To provide students with free practice of the target language

I'll let them have a look at the sentences and let them relate to themselves. Choose some of these sentences to come up with a funny story of your own to share! I had lunch with friends last night.
