Description

This is a speaking lesson whose intentions are to introduce and provide practice of speaking (for fluency) about discussing a new product.

Materials

Main Aims

  • To provide fluency speaking practice in a conversation in the context of launch a new product.

Subsidiary Aims

  • To develop students’ listening skills for detailed understanding
  • To develop students’ understanding of the meaning, form, and pronunciation of phrases in the context of discussion language

Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (4-5 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

1. T asks SS about their weekend and nominates 1-2 SS to get their answers. 2. T asks SS if they practiced their English during the week and nominates 2 SS to get their answers. 3.T shares the screen and shows the first slide of the Canva presentation with pictures of some famous brands and asks : "What are the slogans of these brands?" 4. T selects 2-3 students to answer the question. 5. After that, T continues showing the Canva Presentation with two more questions: "Which advertising campaigns do you like at the moment? Why?" "How many different ways to advertise a product can you think of?" 6. T selects 2-3 students to answer the questions.

Exposure (4-5 minutes) • To provide a model of production expected in coming tasks through reading/listening

7. T instructs SS: "Now we are going to listen to an audio together. For doing that, I am going to give you a google form" 8. T sends the Google Form link through the chatbox and then gives the instructions: "Please answer the questions in this form at the same time that you are listening to the audio. Remember to mute your mics while I play this audio. You will have 3 minutes to do this and after it I will share the answers with you" 9. SS do the the activity during the assigned time 10. T shares screen of correct answers for Google Form and then asks: "Is everything clear?" "Do you have any question about this task?"

Language Preparation (MFAP) (10-13 minutes) • To highlight and clarify useful language for coming productive tasks

11. T shares a Google Form link to SS so they can analyze some phrases from the audio. 12. T instructs SS: “Now you will have 5 minutes to analyze these phrases from the audio and answer the questions individually” 13. T shows the responses from the students and asks if everything is clear before moving on to the next part. 14. T shares screen in the part of the sentences selected and asks SS to listen carefully so they can identify the stress words. 15. T makes SS some questions: Which words am I stressing? Do I use contractions? 16. T asks SS to repeat after her

Speaking Task (12-15 minutes) • To provide an opportunity to practice target productive skills

17. T instructs SS: "Now you are going to design a campaign for a new product using the discussion language that we learned today. Make notes on your decisions and ideas on a Power Point or Word Document (Just if you can) if not just write them on a paper sheet" Discuss these things: • What is the product? • a name for the product • a logo or a slogan • who the product is aimed at what is different about it • how you're going to advertise it 18. T explains to SS: "For this activity you will have 5 minutes, after it you will be switched to work with another partner. Please remember to practice by using the useful language" 19.T asks 1-2 students to share the products they designed in the OCFB

Feedback and Error Correction (6-7 minutes) • To provide feedback on students' production and use of language

20. T copy-pastes the phrases collected during monitoring and asks the SS to improve or correct those phrases by following the dynamic "Hospital for sentences" 21. SS will pretend they are doctors and have to operate sentences. Each incorrect sentence will first go through the emergency room, then they will be transferred to the operating room to be corrected and finally when the sentences have improved they will go to the recovery room. 22. After finishing the error correction, T says goodbye to the students and thanks them for their presence.
