In this lesson the student will be learning about Lifestyles within the context of fashion, naming body parts, and describing activities for the day

Main Aims

  • To provide gist reading practice using a text about lifestyles in the context of the real price of fashion
  • To provide detailed reading practice using a text about lifestyles in the context of a perfect day, relaxing and eccentrics
  • To provide deduction reading practice using a text about lifestyles in the context of the human body

Subsidiary Aims

  • To provide practice of lifestyles in the context of fashion and description of a perfect day

Procedure

Opener (5-10 minutes) • To introduce different lifestlyes

The teacher will ask the student about different lifestyles that he knows of and elicit responses. During the discussion the teacher will take notes on the students use of pronunciation, vocabulary used , grammar and fluency to determine his abilities for future tasks.

Task 1 (8-10 minutes) • To use "keywords"

The teacher will show the student three photos (a financial dealer, a shepherd and a rock star) and elicit responses from the student on their opinion of these occupations. Making sure the student uses sentences like "I think the shepherds life is peaceful but it may be boring". Key words to elicit (boring, busy, creative, dangerous, active, easy, lazy, exciting, free, interesting) Any key words said will be written on the WB.`

Task 2 (10-15 minutes) • Reading and discussion of a perfect day

The teacher will give the student HO2 and get the student to read the article. The article discusses one persons idea of a perfect day(which means he sits at on his sofa and is a "couch potato". The teacher will ICQ the student to make sure he understands what is to be done. After reading the article the student will be given HO3 which has a series of questions relating to the article. Describing the man and using the Key words which will be written on the WB. Using CCQ's to make sure the student understands these words..

Task 3 (10-15 minutes) • To discuss and understand the term relaxing in the context of lifestyle

The teacher will show the student HO4 and elicit from the student responses. Are these situations "relaxing or stressful" The teacher will write any key words used on the WB. The teacher will ask what other things the student finds stressful. The teacher will show HO5 to the student which has questions to answer and elicit from the student his ideas.

Task 4 (10-15 minutes) • To get the student to understand eccentric lifestyles

The teacher will show HO7 to the student which has a picture of an eccentric lifestyle. The student will then answer the questions relating to picture by putting the keywords into the correct parts of the sentences of the dialogue. The teacher will write these key words on the WB as well.

Task 5 (10-15 minutes) • To introduce the idea of Fashion within the context of lifestyle using vocabulary

The teacher will show and explain to the student HO8 and get the student to answer the series of questions relating to fashion. The teacher will elicit a response from the student on his ideas of the importance of fashion to lifestyle

Task 7 (10-15 minutes) • To discuss aspects of the human body

The teacher will show the student HO9 and get the student to identify the as many parts of the human body he can. The teacher will the elicit fro the student how certain types of lifestyles can affect some of these parts. an example might be smoking damages your lungs.
