Description

In this lesson, the student will listen to four people talking about the people who have had an influence on their lives.This listening will be used as a context to introduce the use of the word stuff as an informal English word.After that , Sts will move to a speaking activity about the same topic of the listening part.

Main Aims

  • To practice the use of a new vocabulary item and some useful phrases via a quick listening task followed by a speaking activity.

Subsidiary Aims

  • To practice speaking for fluency .

Procedure

Warmer / Lead in (7 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students.

The lead in started the day before the lesson starts as I prepared three students to start the lesson one by one talking about the people who have had an important influence on their life .Then,in pairs the students discuss the same topic with their partners.

Listening Task (10 minutes) • To provide an opportunity to practice target receptive skills.

The students listen to four people talking about the people who have had an important influence on their life .After that,they will write the names of the people next to each name. This part of the lesson is used as a lead in to the next part which will be about the use of the word stuff as an informal word.

Language Focus. (7 minutes) • To clarify the meaning and usage of the word stuff .

In this stage the students read the sentences from the listening .Then, work in pairs and answer the questions about the word stuff .

Task (8 minutes) • To provide an opportunity to practice the word stuff .

The students read the sentences , discuss in pairs and rewrite them using the word stuff .

Practice Speaking (13 minutes) • To give the students a chance to produce the language.

In this exercise, the students discuss the questions in pairs .Then, individually think about the answers using the phrases suggested on the page .Finally ,they produce the language by telling their partner about the person.The teacher monitors and gets feedback while listening to them .
