Reading(English: The Language of Business)
Pre-intermediate level


In this lesson we'll help the class working on a reading task. First I'll start to ask some questions about online jobs and will ask SS about the language we need to learn for working online in big teach highlighted words in the reading I'll show some related pictures and help the SS to find the meaning.Then as a gist task I'll ask them a question about the language a big company use for business.I'll ask them to open their books then read the first practice and try to guess the answers in GW . They will have 2 minutes to read the reading part quickly and then get feedback by checking the answers.They'll take a quick look at next practice before reading agian. I'll give them 5 minutes to read carefully.Then ask them to do next practice. I'll check the answers with SS. For free practice they will discus how much important is leaning English for their future carrier.

Main Aims

  • To provide gist reading practice using a text about The Language of Business in the context of big companies around the world

Subsidiary Aims

  • To provide fluency speaking practice in a conversation and discussion in the context of jobs and languages


Warmer/Lead-in (2-3 minutes) • To engage SS with context of reading

I'll start with asking a question about online jobs and SS will try to talk about what they know about them. Then I'll go through another question and will show them a picture of some big companies names.I'll ask them if they like working online for those companies and ask them which language do they need to learn if they want to apply for their online jobs.

Pre teach essential lexis (3-4 minutes) • To prepare students for the text by undestanding the meaning of new words

In this stage I'll show them some pictures which can help them to guess the new words and understand the meaning of them.(CEO, headquarter, all over the world, multinational, meeting,document, manager)

Gist task (1-2 minutes) • To provide students with challenging information

After teaching some words which is related to big companies in previous stage to set a gist task I'll ask them which language is their business language .

Pre-Reading (1-2 minutes) • To provide students with more challenging detailed

Ss will be asked to open their books and read practice (a) and try to guess the answers in GW.Then they will have 2 minutes to read the text quickly ,They will check the answers in pairs then with the teacher.

Scanning (1-2 minutes) • To provide with an opportunity to respond to the text

They will take a quick look at next practice to scan for specific information or reading intensively for detailed comprehension . They will have 1 minute to read through the questions before they start reading the text again.(I'll skip this part in demo.)

Post-reading (6-8 minutes) • To provide SS with a detailed comprehension by reading slowly

Ss will have enough time to go through an intensive reading .Everyone do it individually and will ask them to not disturb each other.(In demo I'll give them 2 minutes.) Ss will answer the questions individually after they finish reading. the Ss will check the answers in pairs and will be monitored by the teacher.They justify the answers with reference to the text.We'll have 3 minutes to cover this part.

Free Practice (5-8 minutes) • To provide Ss with speaking skills by using the context of language

Ss will discuss the importance of learning English and its effect on their future carrier.Other relative topics may be involved

Extention task • To provide Ss with writing skills and engage them to find new words related

I'll ask Ss to write about their dream jobs and try to use new vocabularies and find new vocab if they need.
