Main Aims

  • To give students practice in reading for gist, special information and detail in the text of lives and legends

Subsidiary Aims

  • - Students will be introduced to and practice some vocabulary items about legends in the context of lives and legends. - to provide fluency in speaking practice in a group discussion in the context of Legends

Procedure

Pre - teaching vocabulary and checking the meaning (3-5 minutes) • To clarify the meaning of words from the Legendary text

I will select some vocabulary words from the legendary text and convey their meaning. I will highlight the pronunciation and stress of the words and do some drilling

Pre - teaching vocabulary (3-5 minutes) • To check ss us of the words

I will ask ss to match the words in bold to their meaning. Ss will work individually at this time and then give Ss the answer to compare

Reading for gist (3-5 minutes) • For Ss to practice reading for gist and get prepared for the reading

I will play a short video about a legend to give ss an idea of the reading and then put ss into three groups and give each group a legendary reading text. A. Shangri-La B. Atlantis C. El Dorado . I will explain to ss that reading for gist is very fast and they should not check word for word. And ss should read individually and give answers in group.

While-reading (10-15 minutes) • For Ss to practice reading closely for detailed information

I will introduce the task before given the HO and ss will sit in a group of three (3) and answer the question about their legends. I will monitor ss and take note of their mistakes and then give them the answers to compare

Post -Reading (10-15 minutes) • To provide ss with an opportunity to speak more freely in groups and use the TL

I will ask Ss to chose a student in each group to tell other ss about their legends. I will then give them Qs and get them discuss in their groups and I will monitor the students and give ss the answers to compare
