Handout the sentences with new vocabulary( persecute, flee, smuggle, washbasin, sink, attic, deprive, clasp) In pairs, sts guess the meaning of these words and write a synonym or phrase to explain them. Monitor while sts are working, give some clues to those who are struggling.
Show the words and definitions on the board. Elicit part of speech of each word. Drill them individually and chorally.
Hand out the papers with words and definitions and ask sts in pairs to match in order to check how well they remembered the new vocabulary. Handout Vocabulary worksheet and nominate each st to fill in the vocabulary page.
Invite one of the sts to sit back to the board, I write a new word on the board, the rest of the class tries to explain that word to the st who sits back to the board. As soon as he/she finds the word, he nominates another st to sit in his place and writes a new word on the board and the others explain the word. H/W - learn the new vocabulary
