Description

In this lesson, students learn about vocabulary related to weekend activities, and they also read about various weekend activities by different people. Finally, they get a chance to explain and listen to varying weekend experiences.

Main Aims

  • To provide review and practice of weekend activities in the context of people from around the world

Subsidiary Aims

  • To provide scan and gist reading practice using a text about weekend activities in the context of people from around the world

Procedure

Lead-in (3-5 minutes) • To elicit the lesson topic

Showing sts various weekend activities on the board and eliciting the topic.

Introduction (5-6 minutes) • To get sts engaged in the topic. A pre-reading warm-up.

- Ask students to discuss Questions in Q1 p. 50 - Teacher walks around the class to listen to different experiences.

Skimming. (5-6 minutes) • To check the differences between the opinions of students and the ones mentioned in the text.

- Instruct sts to go read the text and match their answers to Q1 with the ones given in the text - Instruct the students to talk about the differences in answers with peers

Pre-Reading Vocabulary Revision (3-5 minutes) • To practice the useful vocab.

- instruct sts to do question 3 on p.50 - give them 3-4 minutes to do it in pairs/groups

Reading for specific details/scanning (2-3 minutes) • To check the answers for Q3 and understand usage of the target phrases in sentences.

- Instruct sts to check their answers in the text. - conclude the activity by checking the number of correct answers by different students. - give feedback if needed.

Semi-controlled speaking (8-12 minutes) • To practice and strengthen the target vocab.

- Display the cards H/O on the board, instruct the activity - Put sts in groups and distribute the cards to students (remind them to prepare only questions at this stage) - At this stage, tell sts that each one of them will go around the class filling survey forms and collecting the answers. At the end of the activity, we decide on the most popular weekend activity.

Free practice writing (PADLET) (8-10 minutes) • To let sts explore the target language in a freer practice writing

- put sts in pairs - instruct sts to go to Padlet and write about their usual weekends/weekend to remember - tell them to focus on go, play, do + nouns while making sentences - give them 6-8 minutes to do the activity - after the activity finishes, conclude the hour by giving a quick feedback on board.
