Main Aims

  • Language focus: Grammar

Subsidiary Aims

  • Reading, Speaking and Writing

Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (3-5 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

As our lesson is focused on Past Simple and Past Perfect tense, the students will be given a task on identifying which actions in the sentence happened first. This will be a perfect warm up for the following stage.

Task (5-7 minutes) • To provide an opportunity to practice target productive skills

In this stage, students will work in groups. The aim of the task will be to complete the rules by choosing the correct word. This way, they will review the grammar themselves without the teacher's assistance.

Task (8-10 minutes) • To provide an opportunity to practice making Past perfect tense

In this stage, the students will work on making the past perfect tense by completing the sentences with their own examples. They will still work in groups.

Report (3-5 minutes) • To allow students to report on how they did the task and how it went

As this stage is focused on reporting how students did the task, we will brainstorm how and when we use Past perfect tense.

Language Analysis (4-7 minutes) • To clarify the meaning, form and pronunciation of the task language

In this stage, we will basically work on pronunciation by pronouncing the sentences given in the coursebook.

Language Practice (8-15 minutes) • To provide students with practice of the task language

Students will work in pairs interviewing each other and then based on that interviews, they will write each other's biographies using Past simple, past perfect and present tenses.
