Description

In this lesson, students develop their listening skills by listening to an interview between an author and interviewer over a google-based book. The students practice their ability to listen generally and listen for specific information, as well as cultivate their speaking skills discussing what they heard.

Main Aims

  • To provide fluency speaking practice in a conversation in the context of google

Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (3-5 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

Ask about their experiences with the internet. What apps they like. What they use the internet for.

Pre-Reading/Listening (10-12 minutes) • To prepare students for the text and make it accessible

Introduce the concept of the interview and the components of it. Go over some of the vocabulary and build confidence.

While-Reading/Listening #1 (10-12 minutes) • To provide students with less challenging gist and specific information reading/listening tasks

Listen to the interview. Organize it into an order of events. Pick out on a work sheet what things were mentioned first. Hash it out together.

While-Reading/Listening #2 (8-10 minutes) • To provide students with more challenging detailed, deduction and inference reading/listening tasks

Listen again. And again. Preview the questions we are going to be answering. Break into groups and discuss the answers. Share the answers with the class.

Post-Reading/Listening (4-5 minutes) • To provide with an opportunity to respond to the text and expand on what they've learned

Talk about what they google regularly, how much they use the internet, what google apps are on their computer or phone.
