Main Aims

  • To provide clarification and practice of adjectives in the context of personal qualities.

Subsidiary Aims

  • To provide detailed reading practice using a text about qualities people need to do their jobs in the context of personal qualities.

Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (3-5 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

1. Think of three personal qualities you have. 2. Take turns asking your classmate about their top three personal qualities. 3. Share your findings with the teacher.

Exposure (8-10 minutes) • To provide context for the target language through a text or situation

1. Read the three paragraphs. 2. Read the question in 1A. 3. In pairs, find the answer to the question. 4. Share your answer with your teacher.

Highlighting (8-10 minutes) • To draw students' attention to the target language

1. Read the bold words from the paragraphs. 2. Put them on a list. 3. In pairs, find out the meaning of each of them. 4. In pairs, use each of them in a sentence. 5. Read your sentences to the teacher.

Clarification (8-10 minutes) • To clarify the meaning, form and pronunciation of the target language

At this stage, the teacher will work with the students on the following: 1. Meaning: Show the students photos of types of movies, elicit the meaning, and ask CCQs. 2. Pronunciation: Chorally and individually drilling and extra pronunciation tips. 3. Form: Explaining the form of each word, I'll ask the students to guess the form and usage of the new vocabulary.

Semi-Controlled Practice (8-10 minutes) • To concept check further and prepare students for free practice

1. Read the definitions 1-9. 2. Reread the bold words. 3. Match the words in bold with the definitions. 4. Check your answers with a classmate.

Free Practice (12-15 minutes) • To provide students with free practice of the target language

1. Think of your future job. 2. What qualities would you need for that job? And why? 3. Take turns asking each other about your future job and the qualities you need.
