In this lesson Students will learn to describe actions in progress at a specific moment in the past.

Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (2-4 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

I will start the class by asking if the students know Barack Obama. Then I will ask them to look at the photo on page 14 and answer to " What do you think is happening?"

Exposure (6-7 minutes) • To provide context for the target language through a text or situation

In this stage students will read the text to find the answer for the question 'Why couldn't he go inside?" Then they will have time to read the questions in exercise 1b, They will read the text again and answer the questions. We can check the answers all together.

Highlighting (2-3 minutes) • To draw students' attention to the target language

In this stage I will ask my student to highlight the verbs with "ing" in the text. Then I will write some of them on the board.

Clarification (7-7 minutes) • To clarify the meaning, form and pronunciation of the target language

Students will look at the Grammar part and we will do the first exercise together. Then I will use an in-text sentence to teach them The past continuous tense, time structure, uses, pronunciation, etc.. And we will move to grammar bank.

Controlled Practice (4-4 minutes) • To concept check and prepare students for more meaningful practice

In this stage we will move to page 129, Students will fill in the blanks and then they can check their answers with a partner. Then we will check it with the whole class.

Free Practice (4-5 minutes) • To provide students with free practice of the target language

In this stage students will sit in groups of 3 and tell interesting stories that happened in the past.
