Description

In this lesson, students learn to agree and disagree in discussions. The lesson starts with a discussion about the things that students normally talk about with their friends. This is followed by a task of listening for specific information. Then the teacher highlights the useful language. Afterward, students start brainstorming their ideas. This is followed by a speaking task. Finally, the teacher provides language and content feedback.

Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (5 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

T links their lesson to the students' last lesson about "Compensation Culture". T asks SS to ask and answer questions about things they argue with their friends.

Exposure (10 minutes) • To provide a model of production expected in coming tasks through listening

Students listen for gist. SS check in pairs then T provides feedback and discusses answers. Students listen for specific information. SS check in pairs thenT provides feedback and discusses answers.

Useful Language (10 minutes) • To highlight and clarify useful language for coming productive tasks

Students tick the phrases they hear. SS check in pairs thenT provides answers. Students choose how they could agree or disagree by choosing accurate phrases. SS check in pairs then T provides answers and highlights intonation. Students choose how they could strongly agree or disagree. SS check in pairs then T provides answers and highlights intonation.

Productive Speaking Task(s) (20 minutes) • To provide an opportunity to practice target productive skills

SS brainstorm their ideas using opinions in ex. 4-a SS duscuss in groups using notes on the board. T chooses two topics for discussion. T divides SS into groups. SS practise agreeing and disagreeing together.

Feedback and Error Correction (8 minutes) • To provide feedback on students' production and use of language

T provides content and language feedback on the board.
