Main Aims

Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (3-5 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

Students will read the list of achievements below. T will ask: Can you think of an example of one of these? The invention of an important piece of technology. A 'basic' scientific advance that we couldn't live without The discovery of an important cure or medicine A great step forward in human rights A great social or political advance An amazing piece of engineering or architecture An outstanding sporting achievement Later students will think of the achievements mentioned which one is the work of one person and are collective humans achievements.

Exposure (8-10 minutes) • To provide a model of production expected in coming tasks through reading/listening

Students will listen to five people talking about achievements that they find amazing. I will explain MFP of 3 phrases that will be heard in the audio through CCQs and pictures. For pronunciation, I model and drill. Let’s talk about some phrases and get to understand them. Meaning/Form/Pronunciation 1) One thing that I think has really made a difference to people is having running hot and cold water. Is the person giving an opinion? Yes What is the meaning of the word difference? Change Was it a positive or negative impact? Positive What is the word really in the sentence? Adverb 2) One achivemnet I find absolutely amazing is the construction of the Stonehenge What is an achivemnet? a thing done successfully with effort, skill, or courage. What is the word absolutety in the sentence? Adverb What is the word amazing in the sentence? Adjective 3) One person that I really admire What is the meaning admire?regard with respect or warm approval. Is admire a verb?Yes

Useful Language (5-8 minutes) • To highlight and clarify useful language for coming productive tasks

Have students put in the correct box the following useful language: a Talking about a general achievement One of the things I always find amazing is has completely changed our lives. As a result of this Just imagine life if If we didn't have , our lives would be It's Incredible to think that b Talking about the achievements of a particular person His/Her achievements have really changed the world because I really admire the way he/she What I find particularly impressive/amazing is He/She (has) achieved so much.

Productive Task(s) (15-17 minutes) • To provide an opportunity to practice target productive skills

Students will work in pairs and are going to talk about an achievement they find amazing. They will have to think of an idea of their own. 2 Spend about 8 minutes planning what they will talk about. They will include the following in their talk: - some factual information about who the achievement is (including any dates, statistics, etc. that you happen to know) the influence/impact that it has had - why you find it so interesting/admirable 3 Students will swich pairs and talk about the person they chose. Students will swich at least 2 times. 4. To finish students will come back to the main room and discuss a which of the achievements you have just heard about do you find most amazing? b What do you hope that human beings will achieve in the next few years?

Feedback and Error Correction (3-5 minutes) • To provide feedback on students' production and use of language

I will highlight some of the students mistakes that were recorded during their productive task. Ss are to spot the mistakes and to correct them.
