Main Aims

To provide scan and detailed reading practice using a text about English around the world

Subsidiary Aims

To provide fluency speaking practice in a conversation in the context of English

Procedure (31-60 minutes)

Intro & warm-up (5-9 minutes) • to acquaint the students with some local cultural terms and to give them reading practice

Write warm up words on the WB. Greet the class and tell them what the first task is. Have them get in pairs, and hand out the handouts. After a few minutes go over the exercise on the WB

Exercise 2 (4-8 minutes) • Speaking practice

Have them get into 3 groups and do exercise 2 for a bit.

Reading Exercise 1 (7-14 minutes) • Reading practice

Tell them to stop talking and read the passage from 'A world full of Englishes' and when they're done to try and do exercise 1. After 5-10 minutes, go over the statements with the class and write the answers on the board.

Reading Exercise 2 (7-14 minutes) • To give the students practice scanning for information

Have the students do exercise 2

Speaking activity (8-15 minutes) • To give the students speaking practice

Have them do the speaking activity then go over it with them (get feedback).
