Main Aims

  • To provide clarification, review and practice of time markers in the context of planning/future plans.

Subsidiary Aims

  • To provide detailed listening practice using a text about future markers in the context of planning/future plans.

Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (5-8 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

1. Tell us/think of a future plan that you are currently working on. 2. In pairs, tell each other your plans and ask questions about them. 3. Ask your teacher about their future plans.

Exposure (8-10 minutes) • To provide context for the target language through a text or situation

1. Read the sentences (1-6) in 3A. 2. In pairs, underline the time markers. 3. Compare your answers with another pair. 4. Share your answers with the teacher.

Highlighting (10-12 minutes) • To draw students' attention to the target language

1. Reread the time markers. 2. Read the questions in B. 3. Create the groups. 4. In pairs, put the time markers in the correct group. 5. Compare your answers with another pair. 6. Share your answers with the teacher.

Clarification (8-10 minutes) • To clarify the meaning, form and pronunciation of the target language

At this stage, the teacher will work with the students on the following: 1. Meaning: Show the students photos of types of movies, elicit the meaning, and ask CCQs. 2. Pronunciation: Chorally and individually drilling and extra pronunciation tips. 3. Form: Explaining the form of each word, I'll ask the students to guess the form and usage of the new vocabulary.

Controlled Practice (8-10 minutes) • To concept check and prepare students for more meaningful practice

1. Read the time markers in 3A. 2. Read the questions in 3C. 3. Listen to audio 3.3. 4. In pairs, answer the questions. 5. Compare your answers with another pair. 6. Share your answers with the teacher. 7. Listen again to audio 3.3.

Semi-Controlled Practice (8-10 minutes) • To concept check further and prepare students for free practice

1. Read the questions in D. 2. Read the head question in D. 3. In pairs, work together and answer the questions. 4. Compare your answers with another pair.

Free Practice (12-15 minutes) • To provide students with free practice of the target language

The teacher will demonstrate first: 1. think of a plan for the coming winter holiday. 2. Write down some notes/ideas. 3. Start working on your plan. 4. Take turns sharing your plan. 5. Take turns asking questions about your partner's plan.
