Main Aims

  • To provide fluency and accuracy speaking practice of health problems vocabulary in the context of visiting the doctor role plays


Warmer/Lead-in (3-5 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

show the students a video of Peppa pig. Ask them :"What's wrong with Peppa?" "Who is the man in white ?" " Why do we go to the doctor?" Elicit the answers

exposure (2-3 minutes) • to gauge students' prior knowledge of the target language

Divide the students into four groups. Ask the students to work in groups to match the flash cards with the correct words. Monitor the students. Check their answers.

Highlighting (2-3 minutes) • To draw students' attention to the target language

show the students pictures of the target language. Mimic the actions in the flash cards. Elicit the answers and write them on the board. Drill

Clarification (5-8 minutes) • To clarify the meaning, form and pronunciation of the target language

Explain the meaning of each word of the target language. Ask the students CCQs. Focus on pronunciation. Drill the target language.

Controlled Practice (5-8 minutes) • To concept check and prepare students for more meaningful practice

Divide the class into two groups. stick the flash cards to the board. Ask the students to come to the board two at a time one from each group. Give each one of the two students a fly swatter. The teacher explains the game:" I am going to say the meaning of a word.The faster student among the two standing to hit the correct flashcard is the winner.The slower one will sit and another one from the same group comes to the board and so on. Ask ICQs to make sure the understand the game. Demonstrate the first one. start the game.

Free Practice (5-7 minutes) • To provide students with free practice of the target language

Ask the students to work in pairs.One of them will be the doctor and the other one is the patient. Monitor the students and take notes. Use the board to reflect on their mistakes.
