Warmer/Lead-in (3-5 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

Are you very healthy? What do you do to stay healthy? Introduce vocab - fit, unfit, exercise, active, inactive, couch potato, etc. IMAGES

Pre-Listening (10-12 minutes) • To prepare students for the text and make it accessible

Healthy / Unhealthy - put the items in the right category. Add extra items students can think of. SLIDES - getting healthy

While Listening #1 (10-12 minutes) • To provide students with less challenging gist and specific information reading/listening tasks

Play the video "Fit and Healthy" from ESOL Nexus Do Activity 1 - getting healthy - write on your own paper

While Listening #2 (14-16 minutes) • To provide students with more challenging detailed, deduction and inference reading/listening tasks

Play video again and do activity 2 Discuss grammar: going to. Meaning: Future plans, where you have already decided what to do. Look at timeline. Structure: to be + going to + infinitive

Post-Reading/Listening (12-15 minutes) • To provide with an opportunity to respond to the text and expand on what they've learned

Health quiz. Fill in the quiz. Then share with a partner. Is your partner healthy? Why or why not? What does your partner need to do to become healthier? What are you going to do to become fitter and healthier? (I am going to do more/less... / I am going to eat more/less... / I am going to stop... / I am going to start... )
