Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (5-8 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

1. In pairs, discuss this question: Is the future going to be better than now? Why? Why not? 2. Provide some proof/clues for your answer. 3. Share your answers with the teacher.

Pre-Reading/Listening (10-12 minutes) • To prepare students for the text and make it accessible

1. Read the questions in 1. 2. Read the head of the question. 3. In pairs, answer the questions. 4. Discuss your answers with the teacher.

While-Reading/Listening #1 (10-12 minutes) • To provide students with less challenging gist and specific information reading/listening tasks

1. Read the question in 2A. 2. Read for details. 3. In pairs, answer the questions in 2A. 4. Discuss your answers with the teacher.

While-Reading/Listening #2 (14-16 minutes) • To provide students with more challenging detailed, deduction and inference reading/listening tasks

1. Read the summary. 2. Read the head question in B. 3. Read for specific details. 4. In pairs, complete the summary. 5. Check your answers with another pair. 6. Share your answers with the teacher.

Post-Reading/Listening (8-10 minutes) • To provide with an opportunity to respond to the text and expand on what they've learned

1. Read the questions in C. 2. Read the head question in C. 3. In pairs, discuss the questions. 4. Change pairs and discuss the questions again.
