Procedure

Lead-in/ Reading/Post Reading (40-50 minutes) • to give students practice reading for gist and detail in the context of changing attitudes towards marriage.

Lead-in: introduce myself and try to remember the sts names and i start with the sentence on the WB- Marriage is a thing of the past... then trying to see if sts can understand it or not. I might need to help them. upon understanding the concept get sts in pairs to discuss if they agree or disagree and why. Get WC FB to hear some of the sts ideas. Reading: link the lead-in to the text. briefly explain what the text is about to sts. I get the students to do the ex.2. This is a quick reading for gist so i try not to give them too long to do it. Students read then check in pairs then get WC FB. Before doing the next reading activities you might want to pre-teach some vocab e.g dead/alive, increase/decrease, divorce, agree/ disagree, belong. i get students to do ex.3. I might want to do the first on as an example with the WC so they are clear. Get sts to read, put sentences into text then check answers in pairs before checking WC. to extend the reading i think i can then give sts some true/false questions to answer e.g in the UK people are waiting until they are older to get married...sts read and decide if if the statements are true or false, then i check thir answer in pairs then get WC FB. Post-reading: In pairs sts discuss questions such as in ex.4. You might want to add a few more such as ..is divorce increasing in Turkey? Are more people living together before marriage etc.. Sts discuss in pairs then get some WC FB, get a few sts to tell the class what they thought.
