Main Aims

  • To provide detailed reading practice using a text about Murphy law in the context of life attitude and related to grammar of if clause

Subsidiary Aims

  • To provide gist reading practice using a text about Murphy law in the context of life

Warmer/Lead-in (3-5 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

I start with asking a question for example : If you are waiting in a long line at the supermarket and you change to a different line what will happen ? then they will respond one by one and they will be attracted to the subject.

Gist (10-12 minutes) • To prepare students for the text and make it accessible

I ask them to read two paragraphs for themselves and tell me who was Murphy ? a small answer would be efficient.

Deep reading (10-12 minutes) • To provide students with less challenging gist and specific information reading/listening tasks

I want them to read the passage one more time but this time more carefully and answer the question about the concept of this law .

Follow an activity (14-16 minutes) • To provide students with more challenging detailed, deduction and inference reading/listening tasks

on the same page there is a matching activity which presents some examples about Murphy's law and life experiences which helps them to understand it pretty well.

Free practice (8-10 minutes) • To provide with an opportunity to respond to the text and expand on what they've learned

I will keep on the process by a free discussion about what will they do if any of these things happen to them ? or do they have any same experience ?
