Description

In this lesson, students review and contrast Present Continuous and Be Going to and teacher provides practice of both. To start the lesson Ss answer two questions based on the context of places you can visit for free, followed by two tasks related to listening, the first one is for Gist and the second one is for specific information; then T covers the meaning, Form and Pronunciation of the language, showing some G-slides. After that T provides some controlled practice of the language using G-docs, learners do this individually, then check in OCFB. Finally, Ss interact in a communicative task for Freer practice and teacher conducts feedback and DEC.

Main Aims

  • To provide review and contrast present continuous and be going to and provide practice of both.

Subsidiary Aims

  • To provide gist and specific information based on the context of visiting places and future plans.
  • Listening (Gist and Specific information) and Speaking ( fluency) based on the context of future plans.

Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (3-5 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

Teacher engages students using some visuals ( photos of a city) and asks two questions related to the context of free activities in a city ( What can you do in this city? and Which of these places can you visit for free?) in order to active SsĀ“ motivation and participation.

Text-work (8-10 minutes) • To provide context for the target language through a text or situation

In this stage students do a Gist listening task based on a radio programme interview, using G-questionnaire, in order that students can focus on the TL and use it as an intensive listening task in which students complete specific information about Rafael an Carmen`s plans using G-docs . Teacher can monitor students and check their answers properly. Students work individually.

Language Clarification (8-10 minutes) • To clarify the meaning, form and pronunciation of the target language

Teacher covers meaning, form and pronunciation of the language ( present continuous and be going to) using some suitable patterns in G-slides. Ss do eliciting an CCQs . Teacher provides some examples in order that students can understand the language better.

Controlled Practice (10-12 minutes) • To concept check and prepare students for more meaningful practice

In this stage, teacher provides some controlled practice of the language. Learners do a task using G-doc in which they make sentences or questions with the prompts, using the present continuous or be going to. Ss do this individually, then Teacher checks in OCFB.

Free Practice (5-8 minutes) • To provide students with free practice of the target language

Students develop a communicative task for freer practice, where students do a peer work in BOR for 5 minutes approx, in which they need to ask questions and answer them, giving personal information about their future plans and using G-doc. Finally teacher conducts feedback and DEC.
