Main Aims

  • To provide clarification, review and practice of language used for telling story in the context of story telling.

Subsidiary Aims

  • To provide detailed listening practice using a text about telling a story in the context of story telling.

Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (5-8 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

1. Look at the pictures. 2. In pairs, what do you think is happening in the pictures? 3. Share your ideas with the teacher.

Exposure (8-10 minutes) • To provide a model of production expected in coming tasks through reading/listening

1. Listen to the woman telling the story. 2. Listen again, and in pairs, number the pictures in the correct order. 3. Check your answers with another pair. 4. Share your answers with the teacher.

Useful Language (8-10 minutes) • To highlight and clarify useful language for coming productive tasks

1. Read the phrases in the box in 4A. 2. Look at the sentences in the table. 3. Get back to the phrases in the box; in pairs, add the sequencers to the right place in the table. 4. Check your answers with another pair. 5. Share your answers with the teacher. 6. Listen to the story again and tick the phrases you hear. 7. Check your answers in the audio script on page 165.

Productive Task(s) (18-20 minutes) • To provide an opportunity to practice target productive skills

1. Listen to the story one more time. 2. In pairs, re-tell the story using the sequencers and the pictures to help you. 3. In pairs, think if the woman was telling a true story or not.

Feedback and Error Correction (8-10 minutes) • To provide feedback on students' production and use of language

At this stage, the teacher will provide feedback on fluency.
