Description

In this lesson, students will learn how to use the present simple tense to talk about things they do in their free-time. Ss will practice forming positive and negative sentences using the 3rd person singular. They will practice (M\F\P) of regular verbs ends by -s,-es,-ies and irregular verbs (has). Ss will participate in various activities to practice the TL.

Main Aims

  • To provide clarification and practice of Present simple positive and negative 3rd person singular in the context of Free time

  • To practice the infinitives and the 3rd person singular forms of the verb.

Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (3 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

T asks ss (what does Trevor do in his free time?). from the previous lesson. T elicits answers.

Exposure (4-5 minutes) • To provide context for the target language through a text or situation

T asks ss to participate in an activity about the TL. T demonstrates the activity with ss. T gives each student piece of paper with four sentences and asks them to match them with the pictures on the wall. Ss check their answers in pairs. T gives FB.

Highlighting (2-4 minutes) • To draw students' attention to the target language

T garbs ss's attention to the TL. T demonstrates the activity with ss. T asks ss to complete the activity by filling in the gaps. T asks ss to check their answers in pairs. T gives FB.

Clarification (8-10 minutes) • To clarify the meaning, form and pronunciation of the target language

T writes at least two sentences on the board. T explains how to form present simple positive and negative 3rd person singular forms. T clarifies the (M/F/P) to ss. T asks CCQs.

Controlled Practice (7-8 minutes) • To concept check and prepare students for more meaningful practice

T asks ss to practice the TL in a controlled activity. T demonstrates the activity with ss. T gives ss handouts and asks ss to use the verbs in the correct form with (he/she/it). T asks ss to check their answers in pairs. T gives FB.

Semi-Controlled Practice (7-8 minutes) • To concept check further and prepare students for free practice

T asks ss to participate in another activity to practice the TL. T demonstrates the activity with ss. T gives ss handouts and asks ss to fill in the gaps by using the correct form of the verb between brackets. T asks ss to check their answers in pairs. T gives FB.

Free Practice (5-7 minutes) • To provide students with free practice of the target language

T asks students (what do you do in your free time?) T demonstrates the activity with ss. T asks students to mingle. T asks ss to talk about what their partners do in their free time.
