This will be TP7, a writing lesson.


Main Aims

  • To review and provide practice of writing using the conjunctions because, so, when in the context of a blog entry about places you like to visit.

Subsidiary Aims

  • Provide practice of reading for gist in the context of a blog entry about places you like to visit.
  • Provide practice of speaking with conjunctions in the context of a blog entry about places you like to visit


Warmer/Lead-in (3-5 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

I will present Ss two pictures in the slides about their preferences in the places they go. A picture of a fancy vs a cheap place to eat and a picture of a big park vs a small urban park. I will ask them "Which one do you prefer?". Then ask some follow up questions to generate some rapport and put them into context.

Exposure (8-10 minutes) • To provide a model of production expected in coming tasks through reading/listening

I will show The Ss my model text of a blog entry, then ask them to read it fast for a gist task. After they have finished reading it, I will ask them "What’s the main idea of the text?" Then, I'll choose a student to answer and conduct OCFB briefly.

Useful Language (8-10 minutes) • To highlight and clarify useful language for coming productive tasks

I will proceed to ask some more questions about the text, first about the layout: How many paragraphs are there? What information does each paragraph contain? Is the writing formal or informal? I will choose from the Ss someone to answear each question and elicit the structure. After that, I'll highlight the TL and ask them: What are the highlighted words? Verbs? Articles? Conjunctions? After they answer that they are conjuntions, I'll show them some examples of that conjunctions in context and elicit the meaning and form. Which of the words is referring to: Time? Reason? Result? after that I can do a little roleplay that will help them on the writing task: 1.What place near your city do you like to visit? 2.I like to visit… 1.Why do you like to visit it? 2.I like to go there because… 1.What’s the first thing you do there? 2.When I get there, the first thing that I do is… 1.What do you like to do there? For what result? 2.I like to…., so I can…

Productive Task(s) (18-20 minutes) • To provide an opportunity to practice target productive skills

I'll explain to them the main task. They will have to write a text similar to mine following the structure. The text should have from 150-200 words. And contain two sentences with each of the TL. They'll have 20 minutes. So I'll ask them: Are you going to do this individually? -yes How many words? -150-200 How many sentences with the words should you make? -2 Then I'll send them the link of the google docs for them to start writing. Each of them will have assigned a page with their name, thatI'll have written previously.

Feedback and Error Correction (8-10 minutes) • To provide feedback on students' production and use of language

After they have finished writing, they'll go to BORs and compare their texts with a criteria I'm going to give them with these questions: Does it follow the structure (Title, Intro, Body, Conclusion)? Is it easy to read? Did you find any mistake? Did you partner use the useful language? Would you like to go there? After they've finished I'll conduct some feedback on my own about the text and the language.
