Main Aims

  • To provide fluency speaking practice at giving opinions in the context of controversial issues, with agreeing and disagreeing expressions.

Subsidiary Aims

  • To provide accuracy in functional Language with expressions for giving opinions.

Procedure

Lead-in (4-5 minutes) • To set the lesson context engaging students to it.

Teacher shows students 3 different photos about : Gay Marriage, Abortion and Animal Rights, Teacher asks students if they are fsamiliarized to them and asks them how it works in their countries..

Content Preparation (6-8 minutes) • To provide a model of production expected in coming tasks through a conversation.

Teacher provides Ss a link of google docs and asks Ss to read a conversation in silent and have the gist of it, teacher asks students to highlight expressions of both opinions and agreement, introduces the expressions of the content. Teacher elicits ideas from students about other expressions that they would use for opinions, agreeing and disagreeing and writes them at the bottom of the conversation in google docs.

Language Preparation (8-10 minutes) • To clarify the meaning, form, pronunciation and appropriacy of the target language.

Meaning: Teachers provides a link to Ss of google jamboard and explains the meaning of the useful language, providing two examples, Teacher introduces opinions, agreeing and disagreeing expressions. Form: Teacher asks students to find out either the incorrect or missing word in each sentence , students work in pairs in breakout rooms, teacher asks them to work in sepaarate slides. Teacher provides 3 minutes to work in the task.Teacher nominates 3 students to give their answers in the main room. Pronunciation: Teacher elicits 3 sentences from the book and asks students to repeat them with the right entonation focusing on words stress. Appropriacy: It's neutral.

Productive Tasks: Speaking (12-15 minutes) • To provide an opportunity to practice the target language

Students are sent to breakout rooms with a student that they haven't worked before in the lesson, teacher presents 4 controversial topics, teacher asks students to discuss and give their opinions about that, Ss have to use the expressions for it, the other student answers with an agreeing or disagreeing expression, Students work in breakout rooms for 12 minutes, Teacher nominates a pairwork and asks them to share their discussion.

Feedback and error correction (5-6 minutes) • To provide feedback on student's production.
