The main aim of this lesson plan is to practice and revise past simple grammar structures.

Materials

Main Aims

  • To provide Ss context to practice and revise simple past in the context of tv.

Subsidiary Aims

  • To provide inference and deduction reading practice using a text about Important first in the context of on TV history.
  • To provide fluency speaking practice in a conversation in the context of tv.

Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (2-3 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

I will ask my students to think about frequency do they watch tv and favorite series. 1. How often do you watch TV? 2. Which TV programms or series do you prefer?

Exposure (4-6 minutes) • To provide context for the target language through a text or situation

I will ask my Ss that we will be playing a tv trivia where they have to guess some facts about tv history. What was the nationality of: the father of tv? the inventor of tv? the first person to appear on TV? the first tv chef? Ss have to discuss with a partner and guess the correct answer in breakout rooms.

Highlighting (3-4 minutes) • To draw students' attention to the target language

I will ask Ss to listen to the reading and identify the answer to the following questions: What was the nationality of: the father of tv? the inventor of tv? the first person to appear on tv? the first tv chef? Have them to check their answers in pairs into breakout rooms. T will conduct OCFB

Clarification (8-10 minutes) • To clarify the meaning, form and pronunciation of the target language

While displaying the correct answers slide I will ask to my students: Can you identify some verbs? Which verbs are in the past? I will ask them to mention and point them out. T will underline TL on the slide. After that, I will ask Ss to quickly read the text again and look for 7 sentences in past. CCQ: How many sentences are you looking for? Are you looking for verbs or sentences? Will you discuss, circle or identify? Will you find current situations or past events? T will display the slide 7 where the timeline is shown. I will ask Ss some CCQ in order to identify Meaning. Did William appear on TV recently or some time ago? What is the past form of the verb 'be'? The first person to appear on TV was William Taynton, who worked with a Scottish inventor. CCQ: Is this event happening right now? MEANING A Russian who went to live in the United States in the 1919. CCQ: What did the Russian man do? MEANING He invented the first electric TV in 1929. CCQ: What letters were added to the verb? FORM In 1936, the BBC made its first TV programmes. Controlled Practice (8-10 minutes) • To concept check and prepare students for more meaningful practice
