Main Aims

  • By the end of the lesson, students will be able to write a short film review about their favorite movies.

Subsidiary Aims

  • Students will practice vocabulary related to films
  • Students will practice speaking with their partners.

Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (3 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

To start the lesson, the teacher is going to show students some pictures about films and is going to ask them two questions: "How often do you watch movies?" and "What kind of movies do you prefer?". She will ask these questions randomly to 5 students and then she will continue with the next stage.

Exposure (5 minutes) • To provide a model of production expected in coming tasks through reading/listening

The teacher is going to ask students to read a short text about Skyfall and she is going to ask them to enter to a Google forms link in order to select the author's intention (Writing a film review) They will have two minutes to read the text and select the answer. After that, they will work in breakout rooms to share their answers with their partners, and finally they will share the answers with the teacher, so she can give them appropriate feedback.

Useful Language (10 minutes) • To highlight and clarify useful language for coming productive tasks

This stage is going to be divided into two activities. The first activity will be focused on meaning. The teacher is going to show students some parts of the film review and ask them to match them with the main purpose. The students will do this activity individually for 3 minutes. Then, they will work in breakout rooms, they will have 2 minutes to share their answers with a partner and then they will compare the answers with the teacher. The second activity is going to be focused on form. They will have to focus on some highlighted words and identify what type of words they are (nouns, adjectives, adverbs or verbs). Then, they must select the answers on a Google forms document. This is going to be very useful since they can realize about some vocabulary they could use for their film reviews. For the second activity, They will have two minutes to do the activity in breakout rooms. After that, the teacher is going to ask some students to share the answer and is going to ask a final question: What tense was used to describe this film? So, they can come up with the answer together.

Productive Task(s) (20 minutes) • To provide an opportunity to practice target productive skills

Students will have the opportunity to practice their writing skills by writing a short film review about their favorite movie. The teacher is going to give them instructions before the start writing. "Well, you are going to work on this google slides. Each of you is going to have a slide to work on, and also you can see the checklist in order to ensure you are following the appropriate structure". For this activity, students will have 18 minutes.

Feedback and Error Correction (7 minutes) • To provide feedback on students' production and use of language

When the time is over, the teacher is going to ask students to work in pairs and give feedback to their partners. For this, they must pay attention to the checklist and check if their partners followed or not to give them feedback. They can write some comments on the slides, so their classmates are able to read them.
