Description

In this lesson, students will be engaged in productive skill development by making suggestions for functional language. The lesson starts with a question and some pictures of collocations. This is followed by drilling activity. Finally, the lesson ends with a freer practice.

Main Aims

  • To provide clarification, practice and review of suggestion words in the context of weekend plans

Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (2-3 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

-ask a question to the students. What would you like to do this weekend? -students answer the question.

Highlighting (5-6 minutes) • To draw students' attention to the target language

- tell the students " I have some ideas ( suggestions) for you". - show them some pictures and make them guess the collocation on each picture. - when they find it make a sentence "lets go to the zoo" - show them the next picture and want them to make a sentence like that "lets play tennis" - It goes on with different suggestion questions like " what about ...?, how about ...?, why don't we ...? "

Clarification (8-10 minutes) • To clarify the meaning, form and pronunciation of the target language

- In pairs students listen to the track and match the suggestions and responses. -F/B teacher shows the answers. -show students the ppt presentation which has basic forms of suggestion sentences and responses. - drill the sentences, show the form and stress. - in pairs students will practise the dialogues.

Controlled Practice (6-8 minutes) • To concept check and prepare students for more meaningful practice

-students will work in pairs. they will make dialogues with the given phrases. -there will be 4 groups and each group will choose 2 phrases. - O/C F/B. -Students put the words from the box in the correct places in the conversation. - delayed F / B

Semi-Controlled Practice (8-10 minutes) • To concept check further and prepare students for free practice

-show students some clues on the cards and want the students to make a sentence with that word. They will guess the collocation then make a suggestion sentence and in the end in groups they will put them in order. - 'correct the mistakes' activity in groups. Answer key.

Free Practice (6-8 minutes) • To provide students with free practice of the target language

-role playing activity. Students work in groups. O/C F/B.
