In this section, the students are going to learn how to write a cover email to apply for a job. The main focus is on the style of the writing. They will learn how to send an email to a company or organization in response to a job advertisement

Materials

Abc American English file 3 - Student's book

Main Aims

  • To provide process and product writing practice of a how to write a formal email

Subsidiary Aims

  • To provide clarification and practice of some new vocabularies about job advertisement

Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (1-2 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

First, the students are going to see a job advertisement and talk about their experience.

Exposure (1-2 minutes) • To provide a model of production expected in coming tasks through reading

There are 4 job opportunities and students are asked "which job could you apply for?"

Useful Language (4-6 minutes) • To highlight and clarify useful language

In this section, the students are going to learn how to write a formal email. Additionally, they are going to learn some vocabularies related to the job application.

Productive Task(s) (4-5 minutes) • To provide an opportunity to practice target productive skills

They will be asked to write an email to a apply for a job.

Feedback and Error Correction (4-5 minutes) • To provide feedback on students' production and use of language

The teacher is going to give feedback on student's writing and tell them how to make their work better.
