Description

In this lesson, the student will learn to read the text to find the general idea of the text (skim) and find details (scan). Also, they will learn to talk about their memories.

Materials

Abc American English File 2 textbook, PowerPoint, Visuals

Main Aims

  • To provide gist and scan reading practice using a text about memories and past events.

Subsidiary Aims

  • To provide fluency speaking practice in the context of memory and photography.

Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (2-5 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

Some questions are asked and some pictures are shown to the students.

Pre-Reading/Listening (10-12 minutes) • To prepare students for the text and make it accessible

Some pictures are shown to the students to pre-teach the vocabulary items. The students look at the pictures and the teacher tries to elicit the vocabulary items.

While-Reading/Listening #1 (10-15 minutes) • To provide students with less challenging gist and specific information reading/listening tasks

The students are asked to read the text very quickly (skim) and answer some questions. Then they are asked to read the text more carefully to find specific details (scan).

Post-Reading/Listening (10-15 minutes) • To provide with an opportunity to respond to the text and expand on what they've learned

The students are asked to talk about their memories and use the things that they have learned from the text.
