Description

In this lesson, students will be learning how to work on a reading text in the context of Feeling Good about life. First, pre-reading ( lead-in and Pre-teaching vocabulary). after that, students will do some tasks depending on their comprehension of the text. Finally, post-reading task while they will be discussing how to rank these ideas from their point of view.

Main Aims

  • To provide detailed reading practice using a text about The seven Secrets of happiness in the context of feeling good

Subsidiary Aims

  • To provide fluency speaking practice in a discussion in the context of feeling good and secrets of happiness

Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (3-5 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

ss will be shown a picture related to happiness and T will ask them to look at the picture and write one secret of happiness in the chat from their view to be engaged in the topic

Pre-Reading/Listening (10-12 minutes) • To prepare students for the text and make it accessible

at this stage of the lesson, SS will be taught the blocking vocabulary that may affect their understanding of the reading text. - they will work in pairs to match each word with its definition - after that, they will be given feedback upon their work - MFP will be shown for each word and a picture if needed - drilling - CCQs will be provided to check the SS understanding e.g. the word Brain (n) /breɪn/ (Marie has an amazing brain (= is very intelligent). Is it in the head? Is it the person's mind? Does it control thinking and memory? Is Marie smart? -

While-Reading #1 (10-12 minutes) • To provide students with less challenging gist and specific information reading tasks

at this stage of the lesson, SS will be skimming the text to do some while-reading tasks - in the beginning, SS will be given two 2-3 minutes for fast reading of the text individually - then they will be in groups to solve some skimming questions What is the best title of the text? A- sleeping Enough is very important for health B – smiling and giving others improve your emotions C – Ideas to become happier in life ( the correct answer ) then T will show them feedback on that question with some CCQs to check their understanding Ss will have another question to check their general understanding of the text through Kahoot. it SS will be shown how to use kahoot to solve the questions individually ( the main ideas in the text )

While-Reading/Listening #2 (10-12 minutes) • To provide students with more challenging detailed, deduction and inference reading tasks

This is considered one of the main stages of the lesson because it reflects the students' understanding of the reading text and their comprehension. in the first question which is multiple-choice, T will provide the students with just two questions in groups and confirming to read the questions well before going back to the text. 1- if you want to feel food about life, then ……………… A- don’t sleep more than seven hours B – do some voluntary works C – go to the gym every night. after they finish these two questions, they will be provided with feedback and check their understanding. then the students will have two short answer questions as a semi-controlled task to be completed in groups.

Post-Reading/Listening (8-10 minutes) • To provide with an opportunity to respond to the text and expand on what they've learned

ss will be asked to work in pairs to rank the ideas in order of importance ( personalized ). and to write notes before that which will help them to speak more fluently using the words and ideas from the reading text and justify their opinion using some subordinating conjunctions such as because, so , when , if
