TP 4 Lesson 2 Grammar
C1 level

Description

To introduce and practice relative clauses in the context of celebrations

Materials

Main Aims

  • To introduce and practice relative clauses in the context of celebrations

Subsidiary Aims

  • To enable students to practice their speaking skills by exchanging opinions and answers between each other .
  • To enable students to practice their writing skills with the targeted grammar.
  • To enable students to practice their reading for gist.

Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (3-5 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

I will share my screen and put the students into context. I'll ask them: "What celebration it’s worth waiting the whole year for?" also showing two pictures, one of children's day and other one for christmas. I'll nominate 2 or 3 students.

Exposure (8-10 minutes) • To provide context for the target language through a text or situation

I'll give Ss a task in which they have to complete the sentences with the correct relative pronouns. So that they understand how relative clauses are presented. For this I'll use a handout.

Clarification (8-10 minutes) • To clarify the meaning, form and pronunciation of the target language

I'll give various examples on when to use which relative pronouns and the reasoning behind relative clauses. I'll teach them the MFP of this grammar element mostly with examples.

Controlled Practice (8-10 minutes) • To concept check and prepare students for more meaningful practice

The students are going to be given a task in which they have to complete sentences with a relative pronoun, only if they consider it to be necessary. Then, they'll compare their answers and return to the main room. For this they'll have a second handout.

Free Practice (8-10 minutes) • To provide students with free practice of the target language

They'll have to choose 5 sentences of the previous exercise and they are going to transform them into questions. Then they will ask their peers for their answers (but using the targeted grammar) in BORs. After that they will return to class and I'll conduct OFCB.
