Main Aims

Subsidiary Aims

  • To provide fluency and accuracy speaking practice in a Zizou in the context of Sports

Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (5-7 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

I'm going to give them some sounds and ask them to form a word. They are going to say football. Then I'm going to ask them some questions about it and elicit the topic name. For example: - Do you like football? - Who is your favorite team/ player?........., etc. Then they are going to watch a clip of Zidane playing football and answer 2 questions.

Pre-Reading/Listening (10-12 minutes) • To prepare students for the text and make it accessible

I'm going to remind them of some words or vocabulary that might block the meaning or their understanding. For example: - fans - desire - rough - escape - league

While-Reading/Listening #1 (10-12 minutes) • To provide students with less challenging gist and specific information reading/listening tasks

We are going to read together throughout some steps: 1- Listen to the audio, while reading. 2- I'm going to model for them, and they are going to read as well. 3- while reading, I'm going to ask them some CCQs and critical thinking questions to elicit the information and to check their understanding.

Post-Reading/Listening (8-10 minutes) • To provide with an opportunity to respond to the text and expand on what they've learned

We are going to do the gallery walk: 1-In groups or pairs, students are going to take a part of the story and they are going to draw or illustrate this part. 2-Then I'm going to randomly hang the illustration on the wall. I'm going to ask them to take a walk and write their description of every illustration, 2 sentences for example. 3-Then after that they are going to tell me what their guesses and description of the other pictures are. 4- Then the feedback.

Feedback and wrapping up (5-10 minutes) • To make sure that they understand and to remind them

We are going to play a game that is called spin the wheel. Every time they spin it a question will appear, and they have to answer to get the points.
