Description

In this lesson, students will be introduced to the procedure of a speaking class, introduce themselves and speak about important things in their lives.

Main Aims

  • To provide fluency and accuracy speaking practice in a conversation in the context of self introduction.

Subsidiary Aims

  • To provide process and product writing practice of a speaking preparation in the context of self introduction.

Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (5-8 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

1. Write two things true about yourself and one thing not true. 2. Take turns sharing the information with the class. 3. The students will try to guess which information is true and which is not.

Exposure (8-10 minutes) • To provide a model of production expected in coming tasks through reading/listening

1. Will introduce the students to the procedure of a listening class, a. preparation (Pre-speaking) b. Practice (While-speaking) c. Speaking (While-speaking) d. Feedback on fluency (Post-speaking)

Useful Language (8-10 minutes) • To highlight and clarify useful language for coming productive tasks

At this stage, students will begin preparation for a self-introduction: 1. Write down two small paragraphs introducing themselves. 2. After writing, the students will practice introducing themselves individually. 3. The teacher will support the students with emerging language/language in general. After finishing the first speaking task, the students will begin preparation for the second speaking task: 1. The students will write down four dates, names, and places important to them.

Productive Task(s) (18-20 minutes) • To provide an opportunity to practice target productive skills

1. The students will begin introducing themselves one by one. 2. After introducing themselves, they will engage in a questioning session where they ask each other about themselves, hobbies, favourite food etc. After preparation for the second task: 1. The students (one by one) will explain the four important dates, places and names. 2. While explaining, their classmates will take notes and think of questions to ask them afterwards.

Feedback and Error Correction (5-8 minutes) • To provide feedback on students' production and use of language

At this stage, the teacher will provide the students with feedback on fluency.
